Le No Smoking Orchestra (quel nom !)  est né à Sarajevo en 1980, sous l’impulsion de Nele Karajlic, avec un profond esprit de contestation. A cette époque, Emir Kusturica se lie d’amitié avec les membres du groupe et les accompagne en tant que bassiste lors de sessions d’enregistrements ou de concerts, pour décompresser entre deux films.
