After his meteoric rise in popularity from starring in the inaugural season of the ongoing, late-night TV comedy variety exhibit “Saturday Night Live” (1975-), now old-fashioned film actor Chevy Trudge effectively began his big-screen career along side passe big-screen comedic actress Goldie Hawn in the hilarious 1978 film “Atrocious Play”. Taking region in the radiant city of San Francisco, the single librarian Gloria Mundy (Goldie Hawn) becomes unwittingly entangled in a mysterious terrorist location to slay Pope Pius XIII (Cyril Magnin, 1899-1988) when (while visiting San Francisco) he attends a performance of the 1885 opera “The Mikado” by William S. Gilbert (1836-1911) and Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900) . After Gloria witnesses a brutal killing and escapes an attempt on her acquire life, she is interviewed by bumbling San Francisco police detective Lt. Tony Carlson (Chevy Dawdle) . Not totally convinced about her seemingly uncommon memoir of being attacked by an albino (William Frankfather, 1944-1998, in his big-screen debut) or the warnings she received about a dwarf, Tony nonetheless keeps a watchful seek upon Gloria whom he is attracted to. As Gloria continues to evade the killers, she meets the satyrical musical conductor Stanley Tibbets (the hilarious Dudley Moore, 1935-2002) and mistakenly confuses a short & innocent bible-salesman, J.J. MacKuen (Billy Barty, 1924-2000), to be the snide dwarf. With a myriad of high-tail scenes, wistful dialog, novel characters, Hitchcockian mystery and 1970’s nostalgia, “Snide Play” is determined to bring a smile to most viewer’s faces.

Memorable scenes in the film include Gloria meeting Stanley for the first time, Stanley’s apartment, J.J. MacKuen at Gloria’s front door, Gloria visiting J.J. at the hospital, the “massage” club, Gloria’s friend & landlord Mr. Hennessey (Burgess Meredith, 1908-1997) taking on Delia Darrow (Rachel Roberts, 1927-1980), trying to rep to the opera house, the Japanese couple (Rollin Moriyama, 1907-1992, and Mitsu Yashima) and the “Mikado” performance. Other memorable characters include Gloria’s friend Stella (Marilyn Sokol), Archbishop Thorncrest/Archbishop’s brother (Eugene Roche, 1928-2004), Rupert Stiltskin (Marc Lawrence), The Turk (Ion Teodorescu, 1934-1985), the truck driver (M. James Arnett) and Esme the snake (Shirley Python) . Overall, I rate “Faulty Play” with 5 out of 5 stars and am very jubilant to seek it finally released on DVD. In an captivating bit of trivia, the name “Gloria Mundy” was derived from the Latin phrase, “Sic transit gloria mundi,” which means, “So passes the glory of the world.”

This comedy has stood the test of time; don’t listen to detractors. Leonard Maltin says the film is “protracted” but is perfect by today’s standards (believe about the 3-hour epics to which audiences readily flock) . “Irascible Play” is also an Positive homage to Hitchcock, not a “plagiarism of Hitchcock” as Maltin shortsightedly declares. Colin Higgins does a vast job mixing suspense with comedy (something Hitch fans will ogle) . Definite, this is Goldie’s movie, and Chevy plays it laid-back (if Swagger were to ham it up he’d be distracting) ; they acquire a terrific duo. Saying Goldie was the 70s Meg Ryan (as one reviewer did) is like comparing diamonds to junk jewelry (Meg Ryan is paste; Goldie’s the gem) . Supporting actors demonstrate inspired casting, especially Dudley Moore as the kinky conductor. Sets are pure 70s in full-tilt (a retro-decorator’s dream) . Car-chases with lots of point-of-view will induce vertigo on larger camouflage TVs (in the theater it was like riding a rollercoaster) : it’s ample scale entertainment! “Disagreeable Play” can easily be judged a classic — delicious, fluffy, shining cotton-candy which should be enjoyed as such. If you’re in the dumps, this film will prefer you up. Paramount should have the pleasant sense to release “Nefarious Play” to DVD in it’s recent theatrical aspect ratio…SOON!!!!

I was lucky last year in that I got to ogle End Bill volume 1 weeks before it was released last year. I concept it was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen on film and went on to witness it eight times in theaters. I even chose it as the best film of 2003. Surpassing even the powerful Lord of the Rings. Something I opinion would never happen. Me being a stout Lord of the Rings fan.

So with such high praise for volume 1 my hopes were very high for volume 2. And it more than delivers. Where volume 1 focused more on the action and was hasty paced. This one is at a slower gallop and is more dialogue driven. Which is what Tarantino does best anyway. At approximately two and a half hours it is also a lot longer than the first one. Don’t pains though Raze Bill volume 2 is not without it’s fraction with stout fight scenes and memorable unusual characters. The most memorable is Pei Mei the martial arts master who trained the bride and the other members of the Humdrum Viper Assassination Squad. Played wonderfully by Gordon Liu (who also played Johnny Mo in volume 1) Pei Mei even over shadows the powerful Hattori Hanzo played by Sonny Chiba in volume 1.

Other memorable performances approach from Michael Madsen as Budd a.k.a Sidewinder and David Carradine as Bill. Madsen gives another Mr. Blonde caliber performance as the extinct assassin turned trailer park alcoholic. Claustrophobics assume caution the confrontation between Budd and the Bride is really intense and very claustrophobic. Darryl Hannah is deliciously unfavorable as Elle Driver. She’s about as nasty as can be. What should be illustrious is the fight between Elle and the Bride. What is unquestionably one of the most knock down, race out, intense fights ever set to film. Tarantino pulls no punches here. Broad credit should once again be given to the sound department on this one. You can almost feel ever blow. It is the best fight in the whole of Ruin Bill.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Kill Bill - Volume Two! Click Here

Never seen and only heard in volume 1 we finally accept to glance the performance we’ve been waiting for. David Carradine is of course substantial in the title role. He plays the role with such a laid wait on ease. Both intimidating and icy. You don’t know whether to sympathize with the guy or disfavor him.

Those who said Uma Thurman deserved an Oscar nomination last year will probably say the same thing this year and then some. Where Thurman was praised for the intense action in volume 1, in this one she really goes all out. No longer a nameless assassin out for revenge she is now with a name (to be revealed in the film) and is now seen more as a person then a nameless killer. Not that the nameless killer thing was a terrible thing. It was a broad action role. This time the emotions advance out. Thurman really lets herself go in the emotional scenes. Well reliable of a nomination.

So is Demolish Bill volume 2 a first-rate conclusion? Absolutely. Is it as action packed as volume 1? No. But that’s not a terrible thing because we gain more of the vast Tarantino dialogue. Was there anything I found immoral with the film? Well, there was one runt thing. The credits go on forever. So if your like me and you like to sit through the credits you’ve been warned. Raze Bill volume 2 will not be without it’s enemies. Those who didn’t like volume 1 will probably not bask in this one. If you’re a fan of volume 1 then you should be more then joyful.

Several months ago, eclectic director Quentin Tarantino regaled our senses with a visceral thrill-ride known as “Waste Bill: Volume 1″. This first half of Tarantino’s story account of revenge introduced to the enigmatic old-fashioned assassin known as the Murky Mamba (Uma Thurman) and the circumstances that led her to embark on a quest to `kill Bill’. Mamba miraculously survived an assassination by Bill and his novel hit squad (although her entire wedding party was murdered), only to raze up in a coma for four years. Once she regained consciousness, she began to true brutal vengeance on those responsible.

In “Vol. 1″ she took out Vernita Green/”Copperhead” (Vivica A. Fox) and O-Ren Ishii/”Cottenmouth” (Lucy Liu) . The revenge was purely physical and graphically brutal. It was a veritable assault of visual images and thrilled the audience with the completeness and thoroughness of Mamba’s revenge. Fascinatingly, “Slay Bill: Volume 2″ is a drastically different film even though it continues the same memoir. “Vol. 2″ takes a more philosophical come to Mamba’s revenge, whereas “Vol. 1″ was the more physical near. While more talkative possessing less action, “Vol. 2″ is no less effective than “Vol. 1″. What “Vol. 2″ brings is the rest of the epic that “Vol. 1″ rightfully left out. In this concluding episode, we now know more about the history between Bill and Mamba. We learn more about why Bill ordered Mamba’s assassination. As an added bonus, after seeing a steely-eyed killing machine in “Vol. 1″, we gather to search for a more vulnerable Mamba in this installment. The combination of the two volumes completes this myth. One is the yin to the other’s yang. The choice to split the film into two parts now not only seems right, but critical.

Doubts about Tarantino collected having `it’ should be rotund dispelled by this astounding cinematic achievement. “Waste Bill” honors martial-arts films of the past while setting a standard for future films to emulate. “Waste Bill” manages to thrill the senses while provocative the mind. Tarantino showed that he had this talent when he made “Pulp Fiction”. “End Bill” is the next step in the evolution of Tarantino’s work. Where he goes from here is anyone’s guess, but it has the potential to be spectacular.

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), weak Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me bawl.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here

I concept it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a shrinking young boy star-struck by a celebrated explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become hasty friends, and utter to one day move to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they rob their dream home and fix it up, hoping to absorb it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through broken-down age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a blissful marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s injure when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.

When developers discontinuance in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and fade to Paradise Falls. A old-fashioned balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of incandescent balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a stout, bold kid trying to bag a scouting badge.

After landing in Paradise Falls, the primitive man and the minute boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a vast rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of stop calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.

In the process, Carl learns to let go of his gloomy mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by aesthetic hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole current world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, elephantine of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Bag another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to gain an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster moving movie. But in the meantime, they’re quiet putting out palatable keen movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety mature man. It’s a charming, fun miniature adventure legend with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet tiny epic about loss and treasure.

As a child, the disquieted Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared treasure of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, proceed into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a trusty estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an involved, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the straggle. Terrible kid was unbiased trying to accept an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle scamper to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a immense emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious musty man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the former guy is very familiar to Carl — and to bewitch Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as favorite as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty aged coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can savor Carl’s treasure for his lost wife, and his tedious realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they indicate all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing passe together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy arrive to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of vast dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Peek Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Frosty! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an used airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and sure to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is positive to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special glance. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I worship you”) and act the draw dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to fetch shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of uncommon stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable captivating shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to direct potentially corrupt baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously piquant, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can be pleased. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

Our family is on a retro streak, having bought this movie, as well as The Sound of Music, My Delicate Lady, Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, The King and I, Willy Wonka, and Pete’s Dragon.

One of the reasons is that we want our 2 year mature to experience the movies we grew up with, and the other is nostalgia.

Before watching this movie again recently, I could only remember that there was a flying car, a nice title song, and something about children being kidnapped. Watching it again for the first time, I discovered that I had forgotten most of the movie.

Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke) is an inventor map ahead of his time, whose inventions don’t always work the device they are intended. If you consider his name is odd, the female lead is Truly Palatable (Sally Ann Howes), the daughter of a rich sweet manufacturer. This unlikely pair, along with his two kids and the astounding car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, are the star players in a account which starts out being about pirates, and ends up as a rescue mission. With amusing back from Caractacus’ father, and a toy maker (Benny Hill, in an uncharacteristic G rated performance), they defeat the schemes of spies (kind of like Laurel and Hardy combined with Boris and Natasha), an imperfect Baron and Baroness, and a imperfect childcatcher, to bring the chronicle within a fable to a predictable but intriguing slay.

The scenery is breathtaking, especially the Vulgarian castle and surroundings, and since this is a 1968 movie, we can forgive the lack of finesse in the special effects, where the characters stick out like sore thumbs from the backgrounds, and wires can be seen attached to Professor Potts during a dance sequence.

It’s a microscopic harder to swallow the view of Truly Delicious running around on the beach dressed in tons of white cloth and coming up spotless, and her song about needing a sparkling man is blueprint too over the top and worthy too long. I will admit to skipping over that one.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! Click Here

The vow along feature is a nice touch, and catchy songs (other than the theme song) include “Me Worn Bamboo”, “Toot Sweet”, my personal accepted “P O S H (Posh) “, and the nearly too sugary “Truly Palatable”.

Overall, this DVD is a refreshing family movie that you will search for over and over again.

This is one of the last spacious budget fantasy musicals before these films became fair too expensive to perform. But Dick Van Dyke was at his zenith here and Sally Ann Howes was genuine as well. Notice that Ian Fleming wrote the recent account and as a tribute there were two Bond actors in the cast. Gert Frobe as the King and Desmond Llewyn as Mr. Coggin. But I was very dissappointed to glimpse this DVD released in the Pan and Scan format. I really don’t understand why MGM/UA remastered the film in the THX process and veteran a super exquisite video transfer and doesn’t indicate the film in its recent widescreen format. At one-third of the film is missing and its really difficult to gape this now considering I had owned the widescreen laserdisc of this film.

I was a itsy-bitsy hesitant to examine this movie, it seemed like one of the all too fresh movies where all of the wonderful parts are featured in the trailer, and that’s all you’ve got. So not the case. Not only was it a packed theatre at the midnight showing, but there was not any interval longer than three minutes that had a unruffled audience. Nobody could conclude laughing!

From Zach Galifiakanis, we had a stellar display. His ability to play the creepy weirdo is out of this world. His wolf pack speech was fantastic.

The cameo from Mike Tyson was hilarious!

Don’t miss the extinguish credits where a lot of the missing information is revealed.

3 friends search for the groom after a wild bachelor party that they don’t remember. There’s also a chicken, blow up doll, tiger and a baby in their motel room. The movie was so comical that I was hoping they’d never regain their friend, I didn’t want it to raze.

Bradley Cooper (Yes Man), Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis work gigantic together and are astronomical fun. The movie itself is also big fun and hilarious. Galifianakis’ plays the grooms soon to be Brother in-law who’s incredibly uncommon and not all there. He’s very comical and steals the note. Everyone else was in top produce too though. Fair gawk this movie, it’s the funniest of the year so far.

As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable inspiring shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to train potentially unfriendly baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously attractive, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can savor. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!
