I have fond memories of seeing the Legal Life Adventure films on the Disney TV explain growing up, as well as in re-release in theatres, and this volume contains one of my favorites, Acquire COUNTRY. The other 3 films are also very toothsome, with THE AFRICAN LION being a standout. These restored versions are attractive and really allow you to experience nature’s majesty.

The extras are also quite honorable, especially FILMMAKER’S JOURNAL, which features unusual interviews with people enthusiastic in making these movies. It’s really unbelievable what these people went through to film these adventures.

These films helped perform my admire of nature as a child. Here’s hoping they can aloof have that affect on kids today.

The complete Walt Disney “Lawful Life Adventures” series is now available on very high quality DVD. Nothing filmed since comes up to these. Bewitch them all, and sit down with your family for spell-binding entertainment. My vote for the highlight of Volume 3 is “Maintain Country”. It is place in Yellowstone National Park, and in addition to the bears, you catch to leer into the hole of a geyser.

The final chapter of the “Modern Jersey Chronicles” is am almost satisfying ending to a series of films extending about 15 years.

its more than 10 years after the events of clerks. Dante and Randall’s region hasnt improved great. they’re peaceful working basically the same jobs. in the opening scene the expeditiously conclude aesthetic remarkable burns down. the rest of the movie after that takes location at Mooby’s posthaste food spot, Dante and Randall’s other job.

ive always found Dante to be a kind of bland character, impartial like TC in Mallrats, but they both have that inferior sidekick (randall) so it balances out well.

Clerks 2 carries the torch of the novel perfectly, with classic characters and always sharp strings of dialogue. the movie has a satisfying ending which properly brings closure to the chronicles. i wish Kevin would hold it up though. even after all these years, these characters havent played themselves out at all, even if their absorb creator thinks thats the case. Kevin Smith is arguably my current writer/director, so im kind of biased, but all of his work that ive seen couldnt be any better in my concept.

like most DVD’s Kevin Smith puts out, this has the special features to withhold anybody busy for a while, including an hour and a half long documentary on the making of Clerks 2.

The recent Clerks is a landmark movie; made on a budget of $28,000, it became a enormous cult hit and began the “Askewniverse”, the film and amusing book world populated by characters like Jay (Jason Mewes), Restful Bob (Kevin Smith), and the Hicks family (all played by Brian O’Halloran) . While Clerks II is the first advise sequel to any Askewniverse film, it, like all the others, has sure elements that have writer/director Kevin Smith’s fingerprints all over it.

The tale starts 10 years after the demolish of Clerks. Dante Hicks (O’Halloran) and Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) detached work at the Quickly Terminate and RST Video stores, respectively, despite the fact that they are now in their 30’s. As the movie opens, Dante opens the shutters to peek that the building is on fire due to Randal’s negligence. For the next year, the two of them work at Mooby’s, a snappily food restaurant. We also meet their boss in this movie (in the unusual Clerks, we never met their expedient and only knew him as “The Boss”) . Becky (Rosario Dawson) is a cold and very tolerant (in Randal’s case) manager who likes hanging out with Dante while Randal and Elias work. Jay and Peaceful Bob are also unexcited in the lives of Dante and Randal. Since the Hastily Halt burned down, they had to fetch a original plot to hang out in front of, and they chose Mooby’s. They are composed drug dealers, but now they themselves are super.

The majority of the film takes spot on Dante’s last day of work. He is leaving Original Jersey forever with his fiancee Emma (Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, Kevin Smith’s real-life wife) the following day, mighty to Randal’s disappointment. Randal doesn’t like Emma very powerful, and the feeling is mutual, and Dante himself seems to bewitch Becky. He seems a lot more relaxed and cheerful around her than with Emma, who was a jerk to him in high school (though more on this subject later) .

Clerks II has many callbacks to the first and has all of Smith’s trademarks, but it is definitely its believe movie. In both this and the fresh, we peer Dante’s morning routine for opening the store, he paints a girl’s toenails in each film, Dante does something on the roof, Dante is caught between two girls, and there are some others that I don’t want to spoil. Jason Lee and Ben Affleck both invent appearances, who have appeared in every Smith film since Mallrats (the movie after Clerks) . This film, according to Kevin Smith, is the last film of the Askewniverse (though that’s what he said about Jay and Quiet Bob Strike Benefit), and it serves to tie up most of the loose ends (as Smith calls it, it is an epilogue of the Askewniverse) .

This is definitely a film that merits relate viewings. On top of being laugh-out-loud hilarious, it is so superior that you will most likely miss parts of the dialogue due to the audience laughing so hard. I would spy it now, then wait a few weeks when the crowds have thinned out, then go gape it again.

This film was made for only $5,000,000, which is dinky by Hollywood standards, but is 185 times greater than the budget for the first film. It is my idea that Smith tried to do a lot of things that he could not have done in the first movie. Dante and Randal leave the restaurant to go somewhere, but this time, we actually notice where they go (in Clerks, they went to a funeral, but we didn’t peek what went on because it would have been too expensive to hire extras and rent another spot) . There is also a hilarious dance sequence where Dante and Becky are dancing on the roof while other people in the film inaugurate dancing in their various places (and Randal “wrangles” across the counter), and the shots of Dante and Randal in their car are not shot from the support seat.

The one dilemma I had with this film is the fancy tale. I don’t reflect it was bad, but it seemed a tiny trite for a Kevin Smith movie. It was very straightforward; the microscopic that Becky even hinted at her feelings for Dante, we knew that these two were meant for each other. In the first Clerks, thing were more ambigous about which girl Dante should go for. Unruffled, when it wasn’t being cheesy, it provided for some laughs.

This allotment isn’t so powerful a plight as an observation. Clerks II definitely does not feel like an indie film. I guess that’s natural, because if you have $5,000,000 to get a film that will be inexpensive, you might as well go the whole nine yards. Also, and this is a very convoluted analysis (and is probably over-analysis), but one of the things Kevin Smith said is that this is a film about being in your 30’s while the first was about being in one’s 20’s. Maybe the indie film has a closer connection with one’s 20’s (you are young, unprejudiced starting off in your life as an adult, can’t afford remarkable), but once you catch to your 30’s, things are more mainstream and you can effect objective a miniature more if you try.

In summation, Clerks II is a tall movie, definitely one of the funniest I’ve seen since The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Be warned that it is extremely outrageous (Smith was haunted of getting an NC-17 rating despite no violence or nudity), so don’t bring the kids or easily upset friends. But with Kevin Smith, you really can’t query anything else.

I recently heard someone say they were disappointed with Gilliam’s “update” of the Notorious Brothers and their Fables. Whoever said that doesn’t understand Gilliam’s modus operandi. He is a genius at creating label current worlds(Time Bandits and Brazil) and Bringing former Folktales and fantasy stories encourage to their roots while mild making them attractive(Baron Munchausen) .

The same is just of the Brothers Grimm. He offers a unusual scurry on Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, and quite distinctly the Gingerbead Man, but at the same time retains the essence of the modern stories. Fariy Tales are Sunless! They were meant to frighten Children into BEHAVING!

I also appreciated the emphasis on Character. With the Exception of Peter Stormare’s hammy torturer, the Cast is Well-behaved. Matt Damon is always genuine, but Heath Ledger Steals the film with his portrayal of Jacob Grimm. And of course Jonathan Pryce is always savory.

My biggest complaint though is a rather detestable scene moving a kitten. Gilliam can at times have an extremely inferior sense of humor and this was particularly poor.

Gilliam’s films are not for all tastes I confess. But I thouroughly enjoyed this film. I’ll never examine at the gingerbread man the same design again.

The Brothers Grimm is a suspenseful light-hearted ghost fable in the cinematic tradition of such movies as Pirates of the Caribbean, The League of Amazing Gentlemen, and Sleepy Hollow. The brothers, played by Heath Ledger and Matt Damon, couldn’t be more keen in their roles in this fairy story movie. Jacob, played by spectacle toting Heath Ledger, is the lovable underdog, an impractical poet who wears his gold heart on his sleeve. Wilhelm of course, couldn’t be more different as the devilishly dashing woman-chasing lead and older brother.

The film is spot in French occupied Germany and is quite silly for history buffs. There, Jacob and Wilhelm have a hurry in with the French army. They’ve roamed from town to town making up fairy tales, but not only in the tale sense! Jacob largely follows Wilhelm around documenting the folk tales of the various villages they weave their `magic’ around. When they are captured, the scenes inviting the French general (Jonathan Pryce) are classically macabre in every sense- I don’t want to spoil any surprises so you’ll have to discover the movie to earn out why. Caravaldi, a captain in that army, played by Peter Stormare, becomes a permanant pest and an unexpected side-kick. The character is completely absurd with an Italian accent, hilarious yet creepy.

With Caravaldi, the brothers pick up themselves embroiled in a loyal mystery when all the girls in the village recede. The townsfolk are exclusive but the boys eventually warm up to the female lead, Angelika (Lena Headey) who leads them through the forest and tells them of the folk tales of her youth. There’s a microscopic bit of that fairy myth magic mixed in with some European folklore which makes the movie sharp from an anthropological perspective… it makes you wonder what our folktales say of our history. The movie makes us imagine that these fairy or folk tales were genuine events, documented faithfully by the trusting Jacob. And there in the forest the brothers perceive the truth slack the girls’ disappearance, the connection with Angelika’s missing father, and a wolf that has timid the forest.

The Brothers Grimm is spooky and maybe a diminutive scary/disturbing for young children but don’t recognize the movie expecting a thriller- after all the movie is based on Grimm’s fairytales. It’s a lot of fun trying to guess which fairy sage is being alluded to in the various scenes as the Brothers recognize to rid village of their haunting. And it is spicy how the movie weaves each account into another. There are immense questions as to what is precise and what is not… is it supernatural, a trick, magic?

Magic there is, and chemistry too for distinct in this intriguing movie. Lovers of fairy tales and ghost stories alike will obtain themselves falling in care for with The Brothers Grimm! Hopefully, the DVD or movie will be out for Halloween.

Love it or detest it, it doesn’t matter, this is composed a expansive blues film. Certain this sequel has a funny spot, but so was the unique….it’s a joke, obtain it? I found myself laughing repeatedly as the position continued to satirize the entire thought of a sequel…..if it was too subtle for you, see it again….it’s factual there, brazen as can be.

But who on earth would peer this film for the status? Just to the fresh, 2000 is a enormous blues MUSIC sequel. You’ve got to worship the script writing that has Elwood earnestly trying to convince his band they can compete in a battle of the bands against Clapton backing B.B. with Clarence on sax, or Aretha actually delivering a better pick on Respect than on the fresh film, or John Goodman doing James Browns’ cape…..this is ample stuff…..and what really matters is that the musicians are having a ball…..and it comes through loud and certain, with soul to spare.

Buy this one for the music, the charisma that jumps off the shroud and realize that Belushi would have loved it no matter what…..after all, it quiet celebrates the blues!

It is mind boggling that Dan Aykroyd who helped form the current Blues Brothers would wait almost 20 years to develop a sequel of this caliber.

I waited till BB 2000 came out on video and watched it. I was dumfounded! I did not laugh at anything. I was waiting for a scence that would at least acquire me snicker but to no avail.

Right at the scence when the Dan and John were in the river in their car as a submarine I could not catch it anymore. I stopped the tape, rewound it, set aside it serve in its veil and returned it the next day.

I will not stare it again! This movie is an insult to anybody who loved the novel and John Belushi should arrive abet to haunt Dan Aykroyd from the grave for attempting to pass this off as a sequel.

“Four Weddings and a Funeral” may not be the greatest movie in the history, but it surely is the best recent romantic comedy I ever saw. The only film that can possibly surpass this delectable one is, perhaps, “When Harry Met Sally …” Maybe tied.

Hugh Grant has starred in many films since then, but his best role is unruffled Charles of this film, who unwittingly finds his savor in Carrie, an open-hearted American played by pleasing Andie MacDowell at his friend’s wedding. One miatake is, he foolishly couldn’t realize it before he let her go after one-night stand. But as the number of ceremony goes up (including one funeral), he gradually comes to peek that he threw away the best thing in his life. And while he is wondering what to do, friends around him initiate to search for their steady cherish, including his fill brother David, his timorous friend Tom, Tom’s sister Fiona, and Charles’s eccentric roommate Scarlet. But where should Charles go? Going abet to his countless ex-girlfriends? Or, Carrie? But she got already married.

To be objective, a microscopic abrupt ending of the film damages an entire movie’s strength a bit, but all comedies have to pay the mark to raze the reveal within an appointed hour. What is incredibly beautiful about “Four Weddings” is that the characters are all so spirited and heavenly with witty dialogue that you believe they are not acting at all. Actually, on top of Hugh Grant, many actors are quiet associated with the roles in this film even if they got more populality after this film; Kristin Scott Thomas is later to be nominated Oscar for her turn in “English Patient,” but she will be remembered as deliciously aristocratic Fiona. John Hannah made his name current through the Hollywood blockbuster series of “Mummy,” but tranquil he is kind-hearted Matthew to those who have seen him recite W H Auden (most touching moment) in “Four Weddings.” This is that kind of film that changes the cast’s life. It happens once in your lifetime.

With this mountainous ensemble cast, we have unbelievable script by Richard Curtis, filled with laughable lines uttered by completely believable characters. He does not fail to select astronomical care of minor characters, and give them equally expedient moments. Search For how Serena, in like with graceful David who is hearing impaired, learns stamp. Trying to mark him, she mixes up “nice” with “mice,” but, you know, when boys and girls are in appreciate. nothing can halt them from plan each other. Cute.

Brilliantly written, “Four Weddings” is a satisfactory model of romantic comedy. If you like this type of movie, you surely will descend in care for with it; and if you’re not, your mind will be changed fair like mine (I didn’t expected considerable from it, so I didn’t go to theater until the last day) . And the film never forgets the dim side of life as the title implies. Dusky thing is one of the cast Charlotte Coleman, who played most unconventional bridesmaid Scarlett, has passed away recently. She is terrific.

This film starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell was quite a approved hit when released in theatres and was nominated for Oscars. The characters are well developed and the supporting cast is terrific. There are many grand one-liners and the accompanying music is palatable. I judge this movie one of the best romantic comedies of the 90s. However, MGM has only occassionally produced outstanding DVDs. Unfortunately, this DVD has some artifacts, pixelation, and bare bones reveal. I was disappointed in the visual and sound quality for a film made so recently (within the last ten years) . I would recommend this DVD only if you are a titanic fan of this film or don’t query quality and rich hiss in your DVDs.

A charming, bright and pleasantly sentimental wartime comedy-romance, featuring a winsome Judy Garland and a babyfaced Robert Walker as a star-crossed young couple who meet in the waning days of WWII. He’s a soldier from a little town who has a couple of days layover in Modern York City before shipping off to Europe. They meet by accident and slowly, but inexorably topple in esteem. The shapely, deliberate plug of their budding romance snappy gives design to a skittish bustle to marry, as they realize he’s about to leave within hours, possibly never to return… This is one of director Vincente Minnelli’s most heartfelt films, a really sweet, nostalgic ode to the meeting of outmoded and original America, as the still-young nation strode into superpower plot. One of my popular old-fashioned films… Fun supporting cast as well, with several broadly-drawn cariacatures of the nice folks you can meet in the Tremendous City, if you can only tranquil collect its heart.

For anyone who loves 40’s films but not thrilled with Musicals. I reflect this is a film you’d like. The Stars Robert Walker (strangers on a issue) as soldier on a 48 hour leave and Judy Garland (the Wizard of oz) as a NY secretary that Walker falls in admire with.

“Out of Time” is the chronicle of Banyan Keys chief of police Whitlock (Denzel Washington), a man in the middle of a divorce he does not want. Whitlock turns to his venerable high-school sweetheart, Ann Harrison (Sanaa Lathan) for solace, only to learn that she has terminal cancer and cannot afford the alternative treatment that might be her only hope. Whitlock can’t honest ogle Ann die, so he steals a great chunk of money he bagged in a drug bust from his gain department and lets her have it. But then Ann and her abusive husband Chris (Dean Cain) go up in smoke in an apparent arson, triggering a honest fallout that leaves Whitlock struggling to tie up all the loose ends as his life unravels around him.

“Out of Time” is a somewhat formulaic but aloof successful mystery/suspenser that slowly pulls the viewer into the web along with Chief Whitlock until there’s no dash. Fans of this kind of movie will glimpse a lot of familiar set-ups and place devices, but the strong cast makes the narrative work as a whole even if you deem you’ve got it all figured out. Washington’s hapless cop is unfailingly spellbinding, even if he is guilty of some bad lapses in judgment (but then aren’t we all from time to time? ) . Cain and Lathan likewise do well with their roles, and Eva Mendes is a standout as Whitlock’s estranged wife, a homicide detective in her have honest who slowly discovers more than she wants to about her husband’s role in the Harrison case. Will Whitlock be able to keep the puzzle together in time to build his skin from a looming execute rap? And will Mendes wait on pull him out of the fire, or push him all the method under? You can’t conclude watching til you know the answers.

The film’s seedy, noirish atmosphere is a big plus as well, and if it’s not current “Out of Time” is tranquil tantalizing. Overall it’s worth 3.5 stars, and certainly a movie you want to discover at least once if you like mystery or suspense films. Like many of its kind, however, it may not acquire up to multiple viewings once you’ve learned the secrets, so it may be one to rent rather than occupy. Either map, it’s a gargantuan blueprint to energize a slothful evening.

This is probably the most Hitchcockian thriller to approach down the pike in a decade or so. You have the flawed man unjustly accused. You have a femme fatale who may or may not be unimaginative. Thorny relationships with women. Atmosphere by the bucketload. Sexy, slightly violent, a tad morbid, bundles of wit and humor.

This was a sadly ignored film during its’ theatrical urge. Denzel does his canon proud with another strong performance. While it’s not flashy or subtle, it’s exactly what the film demands. It fits.

The women are, putting it bluntly, absolutely smoking hot. Eva Mendes and Sanaa Lathan are sparkling actresses, and do nice work here. But in often skimpy clothes in that Miami wet heat, they could recite the phone book and most males would be entranced.

Dean Cain is terrific as “the poor guy”. His scenes with Denzel note him stepping up to the plate admirably. You’d request Washington to blow him off the shroud…and he doesn’t. At all.

The screenplay has some nice twists and turns. A weak moviegoer will behold or anticipate a few of them, but I guarantee there will be several scenes or lines that’ll raise everyone’s eyebrows. It’s not perfect; there are some clunky lines sprinkled here and there.

Carl Franklin is a talented director, no query, and this simply will add to his reputation. Again, not flashy, but this anecdote will perfectly told.
A special mention is principal on behalf of John Billingsley. This movie will have people sitting up saying, “who IS this guy? ” He’s an absolute laugh riot. Every time he’s on the shroud he’s hysterical. His lines have the same improvisatory feel that Bill Murray’s did in “Tootsie” (which most were, apparently) .
This is a perfect movie for adults keen in an awesome crime thriller.

My opinion is that France has declined to submit A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT for Oscar consideration as 2004’s Best Foreign Film. I can’t imagine why.

War is not splendid. Especially if you’re Manech (Gaspard Ulliel), a young French soldier convicted by a military court, along with four others, of committing self-mutilation with the intent of escaping service in the front lines of World War I. The punishment is grotesque. Rather than death by firing squad, the five are forced over the top of the most forward trench and into the No Man’s Land between the French and German positions - there to die by whatever bullet, mortar shell, or bomb strikes them down. The subsequent deaths of all five are attested to. Letters are sent to surviving family members by the French authorities saying their boys died in battle. This was in 1917.

Mathilde (Audrey Tatou) was Manech’s fiancée when he marched off to war. She’s also crippled in one leg after having been afflicted with polio at a very young age. In 1920, she’s contacted by a dying survivor of the war, ex-Sergeant Esperanza (Jean-Pierre Becker), who’d been in charge of the provost detail assigned to escort the five condemned men to the front trench, as well as act as carrier of the last missive each was permitted to write home. He tells Mathilde of their bizarre fate, and gives her their last letters, which he’s kept since the war’s demolish. As crafted by director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT is a hypnotic chronicle of mystery, official cover-ups, lies, misperceptions, secrets, coincidence, tenuous clues, guilt, innocence, honor, and, ultimately, treasure. Jeunet has created a masterpiece of special FX, lighting, original camera angles, split cover images, breathtaking panoramas, and visual asides. And then there are the entrancing depths of Audrey Tatou’s brown eyes, in which I could happily lose myself forever. There’s not been the likes of this young actress since Audrey Hepburn.

Though not advertised as such, this film is a gut wrenching depiction of World War I trench warfare. It’s perhaps the best I’ve ever seen, especially when shown in disagreement to gentle Mathilde’s quest through post-war Paris and the intelligent French countryside.

Astute and sardonic Mathilde, perhaps because of her affliction, is a take-no-prisoners dynamo of perseverance. No obstacle is too gigantic that it can’t be overcome. In the kill, she finds … Truth. And, if you gaze A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT, you’ll experience amazement, delight, and tears. For me, it’s 2004’s Best Foreign Film no matter what the Academy votes.

Yes, I said, “lush”. This movie visually encompasses the colors found in our most dazzling dreams and yet is in many aspects reflective in it’s depiction of WWI through the eyes of the French. It is an record yarn of romantic hope during WWI that follows the investigative scurry of a young woman named Mathilde played by Audrey Tatou (Amelie, Dirty Beautiful Things) who is trying to score out what has happened to her lover.

Several plots are played out through out Mathildes’ search. At first you blindly follow the scenes and then slowly the stories become knitted together as you notice along with Mathilde the truth her loves circumstance. I enjoyed the interweaving of the chronicle and the fabulous directing that held this movie together so well by director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, Alien Resurrection) .

Most of all, I loved the cinematography. Thank you, Bruno Delbonnel! Mr. Delbonnel (The Cat’s Meow, Amelie) created the visually lush colors in this film with his unbelievable talent in the art of cinematoghraphy. This film is lush and lovely with it’s astonishing color in the country scenes to it dramatic sephia enact during the war scenes. Together with Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Mr. Delbonnel has created a incredible film and section of art.

Finally, I’d like to mention the supporting actors associated with this film: Jodie Foster, Julie Depardieu, Marion Cotillard, Gaspard Ulliel, Tcheky Karyo, and Clovis Cornillac. This is a extraordinary french film with depth, beauty, hope, and like all the French films I’ve seen a quirky sense of humor that enhances the incredible art of life.

Aoyama is a gloomy lonely man whose wife died seven years previously. Instead of remarrying, Aoyama decided to do his all into his work and becomes relatively successful. However, the death of his wife leaves a hole in him, and when his son suggests that he salvage remarried he asks his friend Yoshikawa helps him by having a counterfeit audition in which Aoyama can prefer 30 women and determine which one of them he wants to marry. He decides on the pretty Asami Yamazaki who is also very soft spoken, capable, and noble. Aoyama soon becomes obsessed with the young woman, and their relationship begins to blossom revealing a flower fleshy of worms. Asami is mighty more than what she appears to be.

It should be illustrious that, although Miike gets most of the acclaim for this film, Murakami Ryu wrote the screenplay. Murakami penned such important novels as _Almost Transparent Blue_, _Coin Locker Babies_, and _In the Miso Soup_. If I had never heard of Miike before watching this film, I would have unexcited known to be on my guard because of Murakami.

Although this film is ripe with violence, I acquire that the main theme is lonliness. Aoyama is lonely. Asami sits by her phone in a dismal room desperately waiting for Aoyama to call. These scenes indicate the lonliness that a number of Japanese, and of course others, feel in their post novel country. Surrounded by people, but all alone with no one they can really narrate to.

In the battle between men and women, who will triumph? Who knows, but Japanese director Takashi Miike’s film “Audition” shines a particularly brutal light on this eternal conflict. Location in Japan, the film takes on additional significance considering what we know about the role of women in that society. I am far not expert on Japanese social roles or mores, but I imagine the stereotypical record of a Japanese woman as a subservient figure to men is more or less an fair one. Certainly, gender roles have changed somewhat over the last fifty plus years as Japan swiftly industrialized and assumed a western style political system. One hopes that some progress in this residence has taken residence there, but I am not so positive after watching this film. Apparently, the conception of a docile, ever ready to back her partner woman tranquil exerts a strong influence in that country. Otherwise, “Audition” would earn minute sense to its target audience. Completely independent of its accomplish on Japanese audiences, the movie will send shivers down the spine of every American male.

“Audition” starts like a Japanese adaptation of some saccharine American family television program. Aoyama, a man whose wife died some years before, desperately seeks female companionship. He works as a television producer, has done an apt job raising his son, and enjoys bonding with this son on fishing trips. Aoyama, in other words, is a really nice guy. It’s unbiased that he is so lonely nowadays since his son is fleet growing up and has less and less time to utilize with his father. Aoyama therefore soon faces the prospect of almost total solitude. Our hero opens his heart to his business partner one evening at the local bar, lamenting the changing face of Japanese society that has led to a decline of musty women–meaning ladies who will finish home and abet their husbands–and a rise in the numbers of unusual, cynical women. After commiserating with his buddy, the two reach up with an ample opinion. Recognizing that they work in the film business, why not establish out an ad for a female share in a current television program while secretly using the audition process as a means of securing the perfect mate for Aoyama? What a quick-witted thought! A fast perusal of the resumes beforehand will encourage narrow down the final choices.

The idea goes off without a hitch, and Aoyama does indeed search for a young woman who he thinks will be his ideal match. Blessed with an ethereal visage and the heavenly name of Asami, this young woman seems like a fair gather. Aoyama likes the fact that the young woman has undergone a few personal tragedies in her life but emerged stronger because of them. He even seems to like her perpetual shyness, perhaps because it indicates Asami is a conventional woman who will know her spot in Aoyama’s household. Even after deciding on Asami, our hero hesitates to pursue the relationship. Should he be so forward? Wouldn’t it seem indecorous to design such blatant overtures? As Aoyama debates what action he should retract a few problems emerge that cast a pall over his choice. His partner encourages him to settle someone else, saying that her “chemistry” isn’t true and that he has a dreadful feeling about this young girl. Another possible pickle emerges when Aoyama discovers that Asami has no permanent address. Only a phone number links the two potential lovers, but the lonely Aoyama throws all caution to the wind and calls anyway. On the other destroy of the line sits Asami, who spends a lot of time sitting around a bare room waiting by the telephone. When the phone finally rings, a smile beefy of unpleasant implications stretches itself across Asami’s mug. She obviously knows her charms worked on the older Aoyama and now she plans on running a indicate paunchy of painful activities.

No guy wants to assume the sort of things that happen to Aoyama could really occur, but it can happen when you commence treating people like objects instead of living, breathing beings. And Asami has been treated like an object by every male figure in her life. When it comes time to lash out at her oppressors, Aoyama is there to purchase the descend. The film becomes problematic when we learn that the main character is actually a nice guy. He loves his son, certainly wouldn’t treat a woman badly, and is so lonely that it is tough to not empathize with the desperate measures he takes to gather a woman. Miike lessens the likeability of Aoyama during the second half of the film, when we notice he has some decidedly unsavory desires of his fill, but I smooth couldn’t support but feel sorry for the guy.

Whether the low torture session between Aoyama and Asami actually takes position or is a dream really isn’t all that crucial to the myth line although it certainly achieves a fingernails on the blackboard accomplish for any male watching it. I deem “Audition” is a film about how men and women constantly and consistently fail to connect on a personal level. When Aoyama authorizes the audition and reads through the resumes looking for the perfect woman, he assigns a host of assumptions to Asami based on what HE wants in a woman. Whether she will fulfill these expectations in person is secondary to what the man wants. Peep the movie, not unprejudiced for the gore scenes, but also to concept a social critique about gender roles and miscommunication.

I am jubilant I viewed Acorn Media’s “The Life and Works of M.C. Escher” before this tape. Although the tapes overlap a bit on the biographical details, “The Though-provoking World” gives a distinguished deeper insight into Escher’s art. Particularly provocative are the analyses of some of his more eminent tessellations, made more comprehensible by rotating transparent outlines around pivot points to exhibit how the artist planned his patterns. Particularly intriguing is the explanation of his false-perspective prints by Penrose, who claims to have (with his father) given Escher the view. And wait until you discover the three dimensional versions of the “impossible” shapes, one of which showed up in the current and lamentable “The Avengers” film: the steps that always go up! The only annoying feature is the English narration given over the Dutch and Italian “talking heads,” some of which are a drier than needs be; but such is the stuff of documentaries. I strongly suggest every math department in high schools and colleges grasp this tape for geometry classes as well as art departments to give the students a challenge of a different sort.

Maurits Cornelis Escher was an unbelievable artist as well as a qualified applied mathematician. Roger Penrose narrates this piece, demonstrating that sections of the figure are possible, and if it is crop and rotated the correct intention, appears to be a different figure. I enjoyed this a broad deal, finally learning how Escher�s famed print of the endless waterfall was constructed.

Mathematicians and artists can devour this tape and it should be in every academic library. This is the best example of the marriage between art and mathematics that I have ever encountered.
